Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson join film

Logan Lerman and Brandon T. Jackson have landed the leading roles in Fox 2000′s “Percy Jackson.”

Chris Columbus will helm the adventure/fantasy about the titular schoolboy (Lerman) whose world is turned upside-down when he discovers that his father is actually the Greek god Poseidon. Story kicks off with Percy becoming the prime suspect when Zeus’ master lightning bolt is stolen. The boy has just 10 days to find and return the stolen property to bring peace to the warring gods.

Jackson will play Percy’s best friend Grover, a satyr. Fox 2000 is looking to place a number of big-name thesps in the smaller roles of the gods. Lensing is skedded to begin in April in Europe.

Craig Titley and Columbus adapted from “The Lighting Thief,” the first of five novels in Rick Riordan’s “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series.

Karen Rosenfelt, Michael Barnathan and Columbus are producing.

Lerman, best known for his supporting role in “3:10 to Yuma,” played one of Mel Gibson’s sons in “The Patriot.” He most recently starred with Renee Zellweger in “My One and Only.”

Jackson’s credits include “Tropic Thunder,” “The Day the Earth Stood Still” and the upcoming “Tooth Fairy.” He was named one of Variety‘s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2008.
