Washington, Travolta 'sang duets over the mic'
“The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3” rolled into Westwood station Thursday for Sony’s world premiere at the Mann Village Theater.
The NYC transit-themed red carpet and after-party included a replica train car, turnstiles, faux newspaper stands and an oversized MTA card for entry to the post-screening soiree.
“I grew up in New York, so I grew up on the subway,” said pic’s star Denzel Washington.
Washington said he and co-star John Travolta “sang duets over the mic” since most of the action alternates between the control center and the hijacked subway car.
“We had a microphone relationship,” explained Washington.
During the after-party, producer Todd Black described how energetic helmer Tony Scott would prepare for each shot. “He would breathe really fast, jump up and down, use four-letter words in a funny way, get everyone pumped up with a ton of energy and go ‘fucking action!’ “
