Patrick Sobelman

Sobelman has scored this year with European co-productions, such as Solveig Anspach’s funky Icelandic road movie “Back Soon,” which closed Locarno, winning Variety’s Piazza Grande Award. Sobelman’s lineup for 2009 includes Patrick Mario Bernard’s Venice player “L’autre” and Marina de Van’s “Ne te retournes pas,” with Monica Bellucci. Sobelman created production-sales shingle Agat Films with 10 other producers to nurse promising helmers such as de Van, who nabbed two 2007 Cesar noms. “I’m just starting to access bigger financing,” Sobelman says. “It’s important for me to follow the filmmakers I admire, and grow with them.”
