‘Moon’ bows in N.Y. on eve of release

'Twilight' producers anticipate big box office

On Thursday, just a few hours before setting box office history, Summit Entertainment’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” had its final premiere in Gotham.

No doubt pic’s producer Wyck Godfrey, who admitted he was “on pins and needles” in anticipation of midnight and hopes “tomorrow morning I will wake up happy,” was pleased over the weekend when pic tore up the box office.

Before the Landmark Sunshine Theater screening the high-pitched screams of young girls greeted pic’s Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner. Meanwhile inside guests had to turn in their phones, camera phones and show photo ID before they were allowed to take a seat alongside the Cullens.

Director Chris Weitz said he felt “relieved” to finally be in Gotham after traveling the world with the pic.

“I’m rather tired,” he said. “I’ve been flying around a lot and I don’t mean like a vampire.”
