Comedy picked up in territories across Europe
CANNES — MipDocs’s most watched documentary, “Body in Love,” has been picked up in various territories across Europe.Produced by Gaul’s Transparence Prods. and distribbed by Lagardere’s distribution arm Europe Image Intl., the comedy doc follows the bodily reactions of a thirtysomething woman experiencing the ups and downs of a new relationship. Europe Image Intl. is selling two formats — a 90-minute doc, which will air on pubcaster channel France 2, and a 3-part docu of 52 minutes each. The three-part series has been nabbed by France’s Planet network and pubcaster channel France 5. The 90-minute doc has sold to Belgium’s RTBF, Finland’s YLE, Italy’s RAI, Switzerland’s TSR, Slovakia’s RTV, and the Czech Republic’s Ceska TV. Lagardere’s sales and co-pro topper, Catherine Alvaresse said the company is in negotiations with American nets, including the Discovery Channel, plus German and Japanese buyers. Per Alvaresse, the Japanese and American buyers were concerned about the doc’s sexually-explicit content and were interested in a different edit, cutting out some parts deemed too sexy. MipDoc ran on Saturday and Sunday before the five-day Mip TV mart, which wraps today.
