MADRID — Actor and producer William Petersen, best known for his portrayal of imperturbable lead investigator Gil Grissom in “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” will attend the Cannes Mip TV trade fair this month to celebrate the series’ 200th episode.
Petersen, who left the series as an actor in January but still serves as its exec producer, will attend Mip TV’s Intl. Digital Emmy Awards March 30 and a press conference March 31.
Petersen’s presence and “CSI” celebration at Mip TV affirm the power of U.S. drama after a WGA strike-ravaged year of production for the U.S. studios.
“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” and sibling series “CSI: Miami and “CSI: New York” are the best-rated dramas on many market-dominant broadcast networks worldwide, such as France’s TF1 and Spain’s Telecinco.
“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” was awarded the Intl. TV Audience Award at last June’s Monte Carlo TV Festival as the world’s most-watched TV drama.
Judged on international ratings, estimated by Eurodata TV Worldwide for June 2007 to May 2008, it grabbed 83.9 million viewers in 51 countries outside the U.S.
Mip TV runs March 30 to April 3 and is organized by Reed Midem, which, like Daily Variety, is a division of Reed Elsevier.
