‘Milk,’ ‘Slumdog’ tops in Vancouver

Fincher, Boyle make directors cut

Gus Van Sant’s “Milk,” Danny Boyle’s “Slumdog Millionaire” and Pixar toon “Wall-E” topped the list for the Vancouver Film Critics Circle, who announced their nominations for the best of 2008.

Boyle and Van Sant also made the shortlist of best helmers, which also include David Fincher for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.”

The Canuck crix also honored Canadian features and actors in their selections. “C’est pas moi, je le jure!,” “Heaven on Earth” and “The Necessities of Life” are all up for the best Canadian film prize. Other Canuck categories include director for a Canadian film, performance by an actor and actress in a Canadian film.

William Vince will receive a special award his contribution to the British Columbia film industry.

Winners will be announced at the Railway Club in Vancouver on Jan. 12.
