Martin Provost

Vet actor Provost has been propelled into the international spotlight with “Seraphine,” a biopic of painter Seraphine de Senlis that Provost wrote and directed. Pic’s kudos count includes the Louis Delluc and Louis Lumiere noms, and he’s a strong contender for a Cesar nom. “French film funding forces us to keep to the ‘done and seen,’ ” the director opines. “We ought to be rebellious, making audacious films.”

Provost is working on a “Seraphine” follow-up centering on Violette Leduc, a writer and avid de Senlis admirer, to be played by Emmanuelle Devos.
