Exec joins U.K. production house
LONDON — Suzanne Mackie is joining U.K. production house Left Bank Pictures as head of film, effective immediately.Mackie was previously director of development at Harbour Pictures. She will focus on Left Bank’s film slate, including the adaptation of “Rafta, Rafta,” Nicholas Hytner’s National Theater production of Ayub Khan-Din’s play, which is already in advanced development. Unusually, her role will be part-funded by the U.K. Film Council’s award of £150,000 ($213,000) to Left Bank as part of the Production Company Vision Award, a new initiative designed to help producers develop projects that broaden the quality, range and ambition of films and talents in Blighty. Left Bank’s slate also includes “Gaza,” written by Frank Deasy and directed by Philip Martin, and “The Damned United,” due to be released March 27 in the U.K. Written by Peter Morgan, directed by Tom Hooper and starring Michael Sheen, Timothy Spall and Colm Meany, the pic tells the darkly humorous story of soccer legend Brian Clough’s doomed 44-day tenure as manager of champion team, Leeds United.
