Exec launches consulting firm Insight Cinema

Mark Lipsky has ankled as prexy of Gigantic Digital Cinema after two years and launched a consulting firm, Insight Cinema.

Lipsky’s offering domestic and international distributors, producers and filmmakers advice on digital strategies and audience development, among other subjects. And he’s planning to introduce a “plug-and-play” solution through which American independents and filmmakers can bypass or enhance traditional bricks-and-mortar release strategies.

“The Internet affords us the reach and revenue prospects of any network or cable channel, and the sooner we recognize and rally around that fact, the sooner we’ll emerge from the debilitating funk that’s enveloped us,” he added.

Lipsky, a former exec at Miramax and IFC, oversaw Gigantic’s releases of “The Doorman” and “Year of the Fish” along with documentary “Must Read After My Death,” which opened in theaters in New York and Los Angeles and streamed day-and-date to broadband households.
