Leslie Mann

Actress, 'Funny People,' '17 Again,' 'Shorts'

While it can’t hurt being married to Judd Apatow (she stars in his “Funny People” opposite Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen), Leslie Mann’s her own woman when it comes to career choices. “I’m very picky, and I have to be as I have two kids,” she says.

Her breakout performance in Apatow’s “Knocked Up” –which grossed more than $300 million worldwide and was named one of AFI’s Top 10 Films of the Year — garnered her rave reviews. She parlayed that into starring roles opposite Matthew Perry and Zac Efron in “17 Again” (which grossed more than $125 million worldwide), Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor in “I Love You Phillip Morris” (a Sundance hit) and Robert Rodriguez’s “Shorts,” due out in August.

“So I don’t just work with Judd,” laughs Mann, who claims she “never set out to be a comedian. I remember auditioning for serious roles and people just laughed at me, which was very disconcerting. Gradually I figured out that there’s just something weird about me, and to just go with it.” Mann next tackles the Lynda Obst project “What Was I Thinking” — “a comedy about women, which is a rare thing.”
