Leonard to be honored with PEN award

Mastras, Black to also get literary kudos

Author Elmore Leonard will be honored with the PEN USA lifetime achievement award for his long writing career.

Leonard has published more than 40 novels, with film adaptations of his novels including “Get Shorty” and “Jackie Brown.” Past recipients of this award include Woody Allen and Ray Bradbury.

This year’s PEN USA Literary Awards Festival will award Leonard and authors in nine other literary genres selected from more than 500 entries. George Mastras of “Breaking Bad” will receive the kudo for the teleplay category, and the screenplay nod will go to Dustin Lance Black for “Milk.”

Ceremony at the Literary Awards Festival, Dec. 2 at the BevHills Hotel is a fundraiser for the nonprofit.
