‘Katalin Varga’ wins at CPH:PIX

Pic nabs New Talent Grand Prix

Roumanian film “Katalin Varga,” helmed by Peter Strickland and produced by Strickland, Oana Giurgiu and Tudoir Giurgi, walked away with the New Talent Grand Prix when the inaugural film fest CPH:PIX closed Sunday.

Fest drew several helmers including John Waters, Richard Curtis, Nick Frost, Bill Nighy, Lukas Moodysson, Peter Greenaway and Paul Schrader.

Pic, which was in competition at this year’s Berlinale, is about a woman who sets out on a road to revenge. The prize sum is 350,000 ($66,000).

Canadian “It’s Not Me, I Swear,” helmed by Philippe Falardeau and produced by Luc Dery and Kim McDraw, won the audience award. Pic is the story of a 10-year-old boy with a vivid imagination. The prize is $18,000 to be used for the film’ distribution in Denmark.

CPH:PIX is the result of the merger of two long-running events — the Danish NatFilm Fest and Copenhagen. Opening April 16, it unspooled 200 pics, including nine world preems and 15 European bows.
