‘Jesse’s Story’ to open Malibu fest

Guzman's '2:22' to close festival on Saturday

The 10th annual Malibu Film Festival is set to open Thursday with the inspirational docu “Jesse’s Story.”

The eight-year project from helmer Mark Jacobs chronicles the life of Jesse Billauer, who became a quadriplegic at age 17 in a surfing accident. The docu shows Billauer’s determination to live life fully and features commentary from Christopher Reeve and nine-time surfing world champion Kelly Slater, as well as music from Jack Johnson, Ben Harper and Jason Mraz.

Fest will screen 29 independent films and close with Phillip Guzman’s “2:22” and an awards ceremony Saturday.
