Comedy thriller starring Haden Church, Shue

Image Entertainment has picked up all North American rights to “Don McKay,” a comedic thriller starring Thomas Haden Church, Elisabeth Shue and Melissa Leo.

The 2009 Tribeca fest preem is writer-director Jake Goldberger’s debut.

James M. Young produced via his Animus Films shingle. Haden Church served as exec producer, and David Denney, who produced the thesp’s directorial bow “Rolling Kansas,” was co-producer.

Pic follows a former high school janitor who returns to his hometown to rekindle a romance with his old flame, who says she’s dying of cancer.

“The story is breathtaking both in its originality and strangeness,” said Garrett M. Lee, Image senior VP of theatrical. “It fits wonderfully into our growing portfolio.”

Deal was negotiated by Image VP of acquisitions J. Beck and Kevin Iwashina of IP Advisors.

Image plans a theatrical release for “McKay” in April.
