‘Hurt’ kicks off Variety series

Screenings will include 'Lovely Bones,' 'Road'

The seventh annual Variety Screening Series will kick off Monday in Los Angeles with a viewing of Summit Entertainment’s “The Hurt Locker,” followed by a Q&A with director Kathryn Bigelow, screenwriter Mark Boal and thesp Brian Geraghty.

The series, which will run through Dec. 17, will feature more than 50 of the award season’s most anticipated films, including “Inglourious Basterds,” “The Road,” “Up in the Air,” “The Lovely Bones” and “Nine.”

Series will launch Tuesday in Gotham with Apparition’s “Bright Star” followed by a Q&A with writer-director Jane Campion and producer Jan Chapman.

This year marks the first time the series will expand to San Francisco beginning mid-October at the Premier Theater.

Screenings in L.A. will be held at the ArcLight while N.Y. screenings will be at Landmark’s Sunshine Theater.
