Banks, Orman to receive special recognition

“Milk,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and “Ugly Betty” are among the 185 nominees for the 20th annual GLAAD Media Awards.

Joining “Milk” and “Vicky” in the film category are “Brideshead Revisited,” “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” and “RocknRolla.” A separate limited-release category has “The Edge of Heaven,” “Noah’s Arc: Jumping the Broom,” “Save Me,” “Shelter” and “XXY.”

Tube nominees for drama are “Brothers and Sisters,” “The L Word,” “South of Nowhere,” “Torchwood” and “True Blood.” For comedy, they are “Desperate Housewives,” “Greek,” “Reaper,” “Skins” and “Ugly Betty.”

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation announced that Tyra Banks will receive the Excellence in Media Award and Suze Orman will draw the Vito Russo Award.

GLAAD also recognizes comicbooks, advertising and journalism.

Ceremonies will be held March 28 in New York, April 18 in Los Angeles and May 9 in San Francisco.
