Comedy fest to screen Coen brothers' latest

The Friars Club Comedy Film Festival will present the domestic preem of the Coen brothers pic “A Serious Man” on Sept. 24 at the Ziegfeld. Pic, distribbed by Focus Features, unspools in limited release on Oct. 2.

“A Serious Man,” the 14th film by the screenwriting-producing-directing duo of Joel and Ethan Coen, follows Larry Gopnik, a Midwestern professor who watches his life unravel when his wife prepares to leave him because his inept brother won’t move out of the house. Period film is set in 1967 and stars Gotham legit regular Michael Stuhlbarg in the lead role, with other stage vets in supporting roles, including Fyvush Finkel and Richard Kind.
