The scoop: It is 1947 and 19-year-old poet and nonconformist Ivan Heinz, unaware of the inexorable approach of the postwar Communist juggernaut, lives a life of bohemian abandon where sexually liberated girls, erotic games and hedonism are sharply at odds with the darkening times around him. Pic was inspired by the memoirs of Egon Bondy, the poet, philosopher, writer and lyricist behind many of the hits of underground Communist-era Czech rock band the Plastic People of the Universe, which was heavily influenced by Frank Zappa and the Velvet Underground. Bondy died in 2007 at the age of 77.
