MONTREAL — Quebec film-funding agency Sodec tapped Canuck cultural bureaucrat Francois Macerola prexy on Thursday. He will take over the top job at the Montreal-based agency Nov. 30 replacing interim president Gilles Corbeil.
The head job at Sodec opened up in June when former president Jean-Guy Chaput was forced out by the Quebec government following allegations that he was overusing his expense account. The Quebec auditor-general had criticized his spending, notably at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008.
Macerola is seen as a tried-and-true film executive with lots of experience who is unlikely to make waves at Sodec. The Montrealer has previously headed the Natl. Film Board of Canada, was a senior executive at the company Malofilm Distribution and then became executive director of Telefilm Canada, the federal film-funding agency.
In recent years, he was exec producer and VP at the Montreal-based Cirque du Soleil.
