Arthur Laurents, Angela Lansbury and Elton John are among the legiters set to receive special recognition from the Drama League, which hands out its 75th annual round of kudos next month.
Laurents, the scribe and helmer of recent revivals of “West Side Story” and “Gypsy,” will receive the Julia Hansen Award for directing. Lansbury, currently appearing in the Broadway revival of “Blithe Spirit,” will be recognized for unique contribution to the theater, with a laurel presented by Harold Prince.
John, composer of Rialto tuners including “Billy Elliot” and “The Lion King,” gets the kudo for achievement in musical theater, presented by “Billy” director Stephen Daldry. Producer Herb Blodgett will receive the leadership award.
Those honors, along with the org’s five competitive awards for productions and performers, will be handed out at a League luncheon at the Marriott Marquis May 15. Jeremy Irons and Cynthia Nixon host the event.
