3D animated sequel to receive simultaneous Imax bow
Disney’s “Toy Story 3” will receive an Imax 3D release simultaneously with its June 18 wide release.
In a joint announcement, Disney and Imax said the toon will be digitally remastered with Imax technology.
We have always envisioned the ‘Toy Story’ franchise as an ideal fit for The Imax Experience and we’re very happy to finally turn that vision into a reality,” said Imax CEO Richard L. Gelfond. “This film also fits nicely into our 2010 lineup.”
Toy Story 3″ is directed by Lee Unkrich (co-director of “Toy Story 2” and “Finding Nemo”) with Darla K. Anderson (“Cars,” “Monsters, Inc.”) produces. Script is penned Michael Arndt, screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine.”
Announcement comes a week after Imax and Summit Entertainment announced “Eclipse” — the next installment in the “Twilight” franchise — will be shown in Imax theaters when it opens June 30.
Imax releases for next year include Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland” (March 5), two titles from DreamWorks Animation/Paramount, “How to Train Your Dragon” (March 26) and “Shrek Forever After” (May 21); as well as Warners’ Christopher Nolan-directed “Inception” (July 16).
