David Newman set for BMI nod

Composer to receive Richard Kirk award

Broadcast Music Inc. will honor composer David Newman with the Richard Kirk kudo at this year’s BMI Film and Television Awards May 20 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.

Newman, known for his work on such films as “War of the Roses” and “Hoffa,” joins past honorees including John Williams, Danny Elfman and Newman’s brother Thomas Newman.

The BMI will also fete Mike Post, composer for “Law and Order” and “NYPD Blue,” with the Classic Contribution kudo for his work with the foundation’s Pete Carpenter Fellowship.
