The red carpet rolls out for Jackson's new film
Replacing Ryan Gosling with Mark Wahlberg one day before filming began on “The Lovely Bones” was “difficult but amicable” according to Peter Jackson.
Helmer was in Gotham Dec. 2 to premiere the Paramount pic at the Paris Theater followed by a packed after-party at the Oak Room.
“Ryan was uncomfortable with trying to portray the father of two teenage daughter. He was only 26,” Jackson explained.
“We persuaded him to some degree, but at the end of the day he had to believe in what he was doing.”
Another difficult role to cast was pic’s killer, Mr. Harvey.
Ultimately Jackson convinced Stanley Tucci, whom he “wanted from the beginning,” to take on the part.
“In order for him to agree to do the role, he wanted to figure out the physical aspects of the character first,” Jackson explained. “He wanted to be able to look in the mirror and see Mr Harvey, not Stanley ”
Thesp sported stringy blondish-brown hair, a moustache, large glasses fake teeth and contacts throughout pic.
“At the end of the day he could take off the makeup, take out the contacts and teeth and leave Mr. Harvey behind, which was important to him.”
