Berinstein wins Whitehead Award

Honor given for commercial theater producing

Producer Dori Berinstein has picked up the Commercial Theater Institute’s Robert Whitehead Award for commercial theater producing.

Berinstein’s producing resume includes Rialto fare such as “Legally Blonde,” “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Fool Moon.” She also directed the doc “ShowBusiness: The Road to Broadway,” about four tuners that opened during the 2003-04 Broadway season.

She is one of the founders of Camp Broadway, a program for legit-inclined youth, and recently co-launched arts education company Thru the Stage Door.

Named after the late producer, the Whitehead Award will be handed out at a reception at Sardi’s March 10. CTI, which operates a professional training program for producers, is run by the Broadway League and the Theater Development Fund.
