Austin, Texas-based B-Side Entertainment will launch a distribution arm at the South by Southwest festival.
“RiP: A Remix Manifesto” is the company’s first release, and will go out theatrically prior to a grassroots DVD exhibition program. DVD distributor Disinformation and doc’s producers, Eye Steele Prods. and the National Film Board of Canada, will partner with B-Side on the release.
Doc, directed by Brett Gaylor, explores issues of copyright in the information age.
B-Side, a 4-year-old company with a sizable profile in the film festival world, runs websites that handle ticketing and mine audience response data for 250-plus fests in North America. The user base for B-Side is about 4 million, many of whom offer direct feedback through the company’s proprietary technology that influences acquisition and marketing decisions.
In January, B-Side landed $4.25 million in new financing and hired Paola Freccero as distrib prexy.
“RiP” premieres at SXSW on Sunday.
