Journeyman project stars Emily Blunt

LONDON — U.K. production and distribution outfit Axiom Films has boarded Emily Blunt starrer “The Girl,” which will be helmed by New York-based filmmaker David Riker.

The project, which is being produced by New York shingle Journeyman Pictures and Axiom, centers on a young Texan (Blunt) who is thrown into an unexpected and life changing journey with a young Mexican girl.

Riker, who also scripted the pic and is presently living in Mexico, turned heads with his debut “The City,” a 1998 feature set in New York’s Latin American community.

Producers are Paul Mezey (“Maria Full of Grace”) for Journeyman and Douglas Cummins (“Broken Lines”) for Axiom.

Pic’s budget is set to be in the region of $7 million to $10 million.

Axiom handled the U.K. release of Mezey’s “Half Nelson” and will distrib Mezey’s “Sugar” later this year.

Journeyman’s Paul Giamatti starrer “Cold Souls” is screening in competition at Sundance.
