Appeal for Bergman’s Baltic estate

Org asks for funds to buy filmmaker's property

STOCKHOLM — The Bergman Center Foundation is appealing for funds to buy the late Ingmar Bergman’s estate on the Baltic Sea island of Faro and use it as a place of inspiration for filmmakers and other artists.

It hopes that industryites — especially wealthy Hollywood players — will join forces to buy the estate, which is being auctioned off to the highest bidder in accordance with the late filmmaker’s will. The auction is handled by Christie’s in London and Aug. 20 is the final date for bids. There is no information on the estimated value of the property or the number of bids received.
