Times critic to announce award contenders

Film critic A.O. Scott will be reading out the nominees for this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards via a live webcast on Monday at 1 p.m. EST/10 a.m. PST.

IFP, the indie filmmaker support org behind the New York-based kudo show, has tapped Ustream to host the announcement (ustream.tv/channel/gotham-award-nominees).

IFP’s exec director Michelle Byrd said it is “the first time in the history of our organization we’ve announced the nominees in this fashion.”

Scott, who works as a critic for Gothams sponsor the New York Times, will reveal noms in six competitive categories: feature, docu, breakthrough director, breakthrough actor, ensemble performance and film not playing at a theater near you.

The 19th annual kudos will be held on Nov. 30 at Cipriani Wall Street.

Among the previously announced Gotham Career Tribute honorees for this year are Kathryn Bigelow, Natalie Portman, Stanley Tucci and producers Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title Films.
