Film unit acquires rights to novel
NEW YORK — Smuggler Films has acquired the pic rights to “The White Tiger,” Aravind Adiga’s 2008 Booker Prize-winning novel of contemporary India. Rights are held in association with Ascension Entertainment.
“Tiger” follows a murderous rickshaw puller who takes advantage of corruption and poverty while India struggles to reinvent itself as the nation of the future.
John Hart, who has been a producer on Broadway shows from the 1992 revival of “Guys and Dolls” to the currently-running production of “Chicago,” announced the formation of Smuggler last week with his partners Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody. Acquisition is the company’s first.
