Screen Gems has found a prom date in Dana Adam Shapiro, picking up Shapiro’s script “Holler” that Jennifer Aniston will exec produce.
Inspired by true events, the drama revolves around a segregated prom in a small town in the South and a biracial high school student who finds himself a catalyst for change when he wants to take a white girl to the event.
The project had previously been set up at Participant Media but was put into turnaround by the shingle.
Shapiro co-directed 2005’s docu “Murderball,” about paraplegics who play full-contact rugby in wheelchairs, and penned “The Every Boy” for Paramount and Plan B.
Aniston will exec produce along with Jeff Mandel. Kristin Hahn, an exec producer on “The Departed,” will produce the pic through her Echo Films banner with Tracey Durning.
