Paradox rides Dark Horse film deal

Duo pact to publish comics based on films

Paradox Entertainment, which is developing a reboot of the “Conan the Barbarian” film franchise, has inked a deal with Dark Horse Comics to publish books based on its slate of films in development.

The comicbooks to be published will especially focus on material created by pulp author Robert E. Howard, behind the Conan, Kull and Solomon Kane characters, as well as the lesser-known Dark Agnes, El Borak, Cormac Mac Art and James Allison figures.

The “Solomon Kane” pic bows Oct. 28.

Publishing deal is considered a way for Paradox to use graphic novels as a way to create some heat around the characters as it develops them into films and potential franchises.

Paradox is also developing a Buck Rogers pic and “Chariots of the Gods.”

Dark Horse had been publishing a line of “Conan” books since 2003 and launched “Conan the Cimmerian” in 2008.There are also the two series “Chronicles of Conan” and “Savage Sword of Conan,” that reprint archival material from the 1970s and onward.

Late last year, Solomon Kane and Kull were featured in mini-series.

“We’re tremendously excited to see even more of Howard’s work getting a Dark Horse treatment since Dark Horse has made a terrific job with all our existing Howard series,” said Fredrik Malmberg, president and CEO of Paradox Entertainment. “We’re now at the point where we can look even deeper into our existing library of properties, as well as looking at new properties, to see what more great storytelling can be brought into the form of comics.”
