Apatow exec to oversee comedy at Chernin shingle
Nicky Weinstock’s career continues to take interesting turns. This time he’s segueing from head of development at Apatow Prods. to head of comedy at Peter Chernin’s still-unnamed shingle based at Fox.
Weinstock will focus on a range of film and TV comedy projects, reporting to film chief, Dylan Clark and TV boss, Katherine Pope.
Weinstock joined Judd Apatow’s production company in January 2008. Before that, he worked in the News Corp. fold, first as a wunderkind speechwriter for Rupert Murdoch and Chernin and later as veep of comedy development at 20th Century Fox TV. Weinstock has also penned several books, including novel “The Golden Hour.”
Chernin, the former News Corp. prexy and chief operating officer, formally launched his production venture last month after ending his 20-year run as a senior Fox and News Corp. exec.
