Renewing its relationship with one of Spain’s most popular auteurs, Mediapro will produce the next film by Fernando Leon (“Barrio,” “Princesses”).
Leon joins other Mediapro directors such as Isabel Coixet, whose “Map of the Sounds of Tokyo” competes at Cannes, and Woody Allen. The U.S. director and Mediapro have a three pic co-production and financing deal, which kicks in with Allen’s London-set summer 2009 pic, starring Naomi Watts, Antonio Banderas and Anthony Hopkins.
Leon’s yet-to-be-titled drama will be produced by Mediapro and Leon’s Madrid-based production label Reposado. It will begin lensing in July.
Set in Spain and currently casting, the humor-tinged Spanish-language drama turns on the evolving relationship between a young immigrant woman, who’s caring for an aging Spanish man. Pic reportedly packs a surprise finale.
