Director set for Gravity Films' biopic of Julie Krone
Gravity Films has attached Katherine Brooks (“Waking Madison”) to direct “Freak,” based on the life of jockey Julie Krone.
Brooks will helm from her script, inspired by “Riding for My Life,” Krone’s autobiography. Krone was the first woman to win a Triple Crown race (Belmont Stakes, 1993) and the first female jockey inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.
Brooks and Gravity Films’ principal Sophie Watts will produce, and John Manulis will exec produce. Shooting will start in April in New York and Michigan.
Brooks’ directing credits include the feature “Loving Annabelle” and TV series “The Osbournes.”
