New Line is “Going the Distance” with Justin Long, tapping the thesp for the lead role in its romantic comedy to be directed by Nanette Burstein.

Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing via their Offspring Entertainment shingle.

Script, penned by tyro writer Geoff LaTulippe, centers on a man and woman in a long-distance relationship who ultimately come to the realization that they would be happier dating someone closer to home.

LaTulippe had been a script reader at New Line for four years prior to selling the script.

New Line made the decision in November to tap documentarian Burstein to helm.

Long starred in New Line’s “He’s Just Not That Into You” and will be seen next in Dimension’s “Youth in Revolt,” directed by Miguel Arteta, and Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me to Hell.”
