Pics debuting new footage or completed form

Films unveiling new footage or debuting in completed form for international buyers at AFM.

Romantic adventure starring Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet, will unspool at AFM for the first time in its completed version. The $18 million, 1933-set epic is helmed by Karim Dridi. In her return to French filmmaking, Oscar winner Cotillard plays an aviator who travels with an officer (Canet) to the Sahara to look for her lover, whose plane has crashed. Gaumont distributes the film in France on Dec. 16. (Sales: Gaumont)

Few British New Wave acts were as widely loved as Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Dury’s irrepressible cockney charisma was all the more remarkable for the fact he was crippled by polio at age 10. Helmed by Mat Whitecross (“Road to Guantanamo”), the biopic, named after one of Dury’s most famous songs, headlines Andy Serkis and co-stars Naomie Harris, Ray Winstone and Noel Clarke. Completed film unspools. (Sales: Metropolis)

A Qing dynasty-set adventure helmed by Yuen Woo-ping, who choreographed the action scenes on “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon,” the “Matrix” movies and “Kill Bill.” The film’s mainly Chinese cast also includes David Carradine. The project is part of the three-picture deal Focus Features made with producer Bill Kong. A few minutes of promo footage will be shown in Focus’ offices. (Sales: Focus Intl.)

A hospital-set ghost thriller helmed by horror maestro John Carpenter and toplining Amber Heard and Mamie Gummer. Producers are former Lionsgate honcho Peter Block (who now operates under shingle A Bigger Boat) and Echo Lake’s Doug Mankoff, Andy Spaulding and Mike Marcus. About three minutes of footage will show at AFM. (Sales: FilmNation)
