Weekly branded block dubbed K1 Discovery
CANNES — Discovery Communications has secured a program block on ProSiebenSat.1’s Kabel Eins, a German free-to-air channel.
Weekly branded block, running through 2009, and consisting of 50 hours of programming, will be dubbed K1 Discovery.
Also brokered by Discovery Enterprises Intl., Discovery has inked for blocks on RTL in Croatia, digital channel Barrandov TV in the Czech Republic and TV4 in Poland.
Discovery has also rolled out international sales and homevid distribution agreements on docu-skein “Deadliest Catch” and survival series “Man vs. Wild.”
“Catch” and “Wild” are already two of the highest-rating series on Discovery Channel, which airs in 120 countries to 357 million homes. In the U.K. “Catch” was last year’s top-rated pay TV docu show among men age 25-39.
“Catch,” which follows men crab-fishing in the Bering Sea, has also clinched distribution for Spain (Sogecable), Australia (Network Ten), Canada (Astral Media), Denmark, Norway and Sweden (Viasat Broadcasting), Ireland (TV3) and the U.K. (Channel 4).
“Wild,” in which British adventurer Bear Grylls demonstrates survival skills, has been bought for Spain (Sogecable), New Zealand (Sky Network TV), and U.K. (Channel 4), among deals.
Both “Catch” and “Wild” figure in the top 10 Discovery homevid titles sold in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
