Ellen DeGeneres has signed on to play the titular role in the Walden Media comedy “Mother Nature.”
Walden is fast-tracking the live-action project, which is based on an internally generated original concept, and is aiming to lense in the summer in Los Angeles during the talkshow host’s hiatus.
Story centers on the mythical figure who makes her grand return to Earth for the first time since the planet’s creation. Project is being penned by Jenny Bicks.
“I’ve always wanted to control the weather,” DeGeneres said. “Nothing will stop me from doing this — neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet … (but) I may be thinking of the Postal Service.”
Michael Bostick and Evan Turner will oversee the project for Walden Media.
Though DeGeneres provided one of the lead voices for the animated pic “Finding Nemo,” she hasn’t starred in a live-action bigscreen comedy since 1999’s “Edtv.”
Bicks is best known as a writer-exec producer of HBO’s “Sex and the City,” which she joined in its first season. She was also the creator and exec producer of the critically acclaimed ABC dramedy “Men in Trees.” Her bigscreen credits include “What a Girl Wants” for Warner Bros., and she recently completed “Destination Wedding” for Columbia Pictures, with Tom Bezucha attached to direct.
