The American Film Institute feted Clint Eastwood with an honorary degree during Wednesday’s AFI commencement ceremonies for its graduating class.
The degree was presented to the actor-helmer on AFI’s campus, and Eastwood took the time to joke about how long it took him to get a degree.
“I never went to a film school because they didn’t have them when I started out. But after doing more than 50 films as an actor and 30 as a director, I would have thought I could have graduated before this,” he said.
Previous recipients of AFI honorary degrees include Robert Altman, Roger Corman and Norman Jewison.
