Forest Whitaker, America Ferrera and Carlos Mencia have signed on to star in an untitled family wedding project for Fox Searchlight.
Rick Famuyiwa (“Brown Sugar”) is directing the pic from a screenplay he penned.
Described as a clash-of-cultures comedy, story centers on two overbearing fathers (Whitaker, Mencia) who must put aside their differences to plan the wedding of their son and daughter (Ferrera) in less than two weeks.
Lensing begins next month in Los Angeles. Searchlight will distribute the film worldwide.
Whitaker will next be seen in “Where the Wild Things Are” and “The Repossession Mambo.”
Ferrera, who plays the title role in the ABC series “Ugly Betty,” recently starred in Warner Bros.’ “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.”
Project marks Mencia’s first bigscreen starring role. The comedian, who exec produces and fronts Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia,” had a small role in Ben Stiller starrer “The Heartbreak Kid.”
