Helmer will receive Motion Picture Showmanship Award
Hollywood union publicists have tapped James Cameron to receive their Motion Picture Showmanship Award.
The org announced Tuesday that the kudo will be presented at the Intl. Cinematographers Guild’s 47th Annual Publicists Awards ceremonies on March 5 at the Century Plaza in Los Angeles. Avatar,’ James Cameron’s first film since ‘Titanic,’ has captured unprecedented attention because of its innovation and excellence,” said Henri Bollinger, awards committee chairman. “It’s been described by reviewers as the most vivid and convincing creation of a fantasy world ever seen in the history of moving pictures.”
The org noted Cameron’s other projects have had a “signature brand of highly visual drama” and cited the first two “Terminator” films and “Aliens.”
Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall received the 2009 award. The publicists’ org also announced that Ernest Borgnine has been selected to receive the guild’s Special Award of Merit in recognition of his long career.
