Diva honored for dramatic turn
The Palm Springs Film Festival has tapped Mariah Carey for its Breakthrough Performance Award for “Precious.”
Kudo will be presented Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center at a ceremony hosted by Mary Hart. Fest runs Jan. 5-18.
Past recipients of the Breakthrough kudo include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Hudson, Felicity Huffman and Freida Pinto.
Carey has received five Grammys and has recorded 18 No. 1 songs. She began her acting career with “The Bachelor” in 1999. Other thesp credits include “Glitter,” “Wisegirls” and “Tennessee,” on the last of which she teamed with “Precious” producer-director Lee Daniels.
