Bob Pisano, prexy and chief operating officer of the MPAA, thought he was attending the Media and Entertainment Counsel of the Year Awards on Friday to give the keynote address, but he wound up taking home the org’s special achievement honor.
Pisano was surprised with the award after delivering the keynote, which focused on the biz’s struggles with copyright protection.
The awards, given out by the Assn. of Media and Entertainment Counsel, are designed to recognize law firms and general counsel and business affairs execs. Org’s fourth annual kudos were held at the House of Blues in Hollywood.
Among the winners were Caroline Jasmine Vranca of Yari Film Group — who received the Rising Star Award — and Frank H. Smith, of Anschutz Film Group/Walden Media, who was recognized with the PWC Dan Brandhorst Memorial Dealmaker Award. The nod for top media and entertainment law firm went to Loeb and Loeb.
