CANNES — Spain’s Elastic Rights has clinched distribution deals in Portugal and Spain for one of its latest pick-ups: Starz Media’s “Wow! Wow! Wubbzy.”
In Spain, pay TV channel Playhouse Disney will air the animated comedy skein in the second half of the year.
RTP, Portugal’s main pubcaster, has already begun to broadcast “Wubbzy” on its second culturally-skewed channel RTP2, in an 8:30 a.m. weekday slot.
The Ibero channel placements roll off deals for Portuguese and Spanish rights negotiated by Ignacio Orive, Elastic Rights CEO, and one of Starz Media’s production units, Film Roman, plus series co-producer Bolder Media.
Deals saw Elastic Rights, a so-called brand-management company which specializes in multi-platform distribution, taking free, pay, homevid, licensing and merchandising rights for Spain and Portugal on the award-winning, preschool toon.
A timeslot winner on Nick Jr. in the U.S., “Wubbzy” turns on the adventures and friendships of tyke Wubbzy and three pals.
Beyond Spain, “Wubbzy’s” now 60-country sales trail includes other major territories such as Germany, Latin America and Australia.
