MTV has created a department focused on comedy and animation together, shifting senior veep of series development Brent Haynes to run it and hiring two others.
Move is part of an ongoing resurrection of animation at MTV, which killed the department years ago after it had risen to prominence on the strength of such shows as “Beavis and Butt-Head.”
Jason Gwozdz, a former development exec at Canada’s the Comedy Network (where Haynes was once vice president), has been named veep of comedy and animation, while former “Last Call With Carson Daly” producer Brooke Posch was hired as senior director in the department.
We’ve decided to formalize the development process around this genre to increase the volume and diversity of content,” said MTV programming prexy Tony DiSanto. “Brent Haynes has great comedic taste and sensibility and is the perfect leader for this new department.”
