Online service kicks off with 'Trumbo'

U.S. online movie download service Jaman.com has bowed its first local site in the U.K.

Site will acquire U.K. theatrical rights for films to host exclusive online preems, kicking off with “Trumbo,” starring Michael Caine and Liam Neeson.

It will also draw on Jaman’s library of 1,000 indie and international pics, including features, shorts and docus.

The multiplatform offering has already inked distribution deals with Axiom Films and ContentFilm and will work with Pathe Films and the British Film Institute on promotional initiatives.

Silicon Valley-based Jaman is working with Pathe as a partner on the digital campaign for helmer Danny Boyle’s Golden Globe winner “Slumdog Millionaire.” It already has a formidable Bollywood catalog thanks to a deal with Indian distrib Eros.

Launched in 2007 by David Fischer, former managing director of MySpace and Fox Interactive Media, Jaman’s U.S. site has on-demand deals with Lionsgate, Paramount, First Look and Magnolia.
