Mexican film unit acquires Chilean toon
Mexico’s Gussi has taken all rights to the U.S., Canada and Mexico on Chilean toon “Papelucho,” a comic book adaptation.
Produced by Chile’s Channel 13, “Papelucho” was a local box office hit.
It was sold to Gussi by Guido Rud’s FilmSharks Intl. one of Latin Amerca’s most prominent sales agents.
Licensing accord completes distribution for “Papelucho” across much of the Americas with Impacto Cine taking Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay, EuroCine nabbed Peru and Bolivia while Escalon Films has Ecuador and Media Intl. Pics has taken the Middle East.
The deal rolls off the Guadalajara Film Festival where FilmSharks also sold Chilean road movie “Desierto Sur” to L.A.-based distributor FiGa Films. FiGa plans a late-summer release on three-to-five screens and will decide whether to expand after the initial weekend B.O. and reviews, said FiGa’s Sandro Fiorin.
FilmSharks has also taken Spain (Wanda), Australia (SBS), India (CA) and Tawain (Swallow Wings) on Mexican B.O. smash, “Tear My Heart Out.”
Distributed by Fox in Mexico, the meller notched up 2.6 million admissions in Mexico.
