Animated series set to launch in January

FX is offering a sneak preview of its new animated series “Archer” Thursday night several months before its tentative January launch.

“Archer” will have a one-time showing at 10:30 p.m. following the fifth season premiere of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Cabler believes “Sunny” is a strong companion to “Archer” and the net seeks to take advantage of auds tuning in for the “Sunny” premiere.

As the half-hour toon takes a lengthy amount of time in production, FX wanted to get a sampling out to viewers. The pilot has been finished for awhile and was distributed to scribes at the Television Critics Assn. confab in early August.

Net, which has ordered six episodes, won’t promote the show over its own air or in any sort of marketing campaign.

“Archer,” about a spy agency where global crises are merely an opportunity for employees to antagonize each other, features the voices of Aisha Tyler, Jon Benjamin, Jessica Walter, Chris Parnell and Judy Greer.

Skein is produced by FX Prods. and created by Adam Reed and Floyd County Prods.

Also, FX is set to premiere laffer “The League” in late October. Show, which centers around fantasy football league participants who take the competition a bit too seriously, needs to run during the fall. Interest would greatly wane if it ran outside of the NFL season.
