Lionsgate has set Jose Padilha to direct and Braulio Mantovani to script “Agent in Place,” a live-action feature based on the upcoming videogame created by Flint Dille and developed with Union Entertainment.
Pic will be produced by Lionsgate production prexy Alli Shearmur and Union Entertainment prexy Richard Leibowitz. Dille and Dan Jevons will be executive producers.
Project is described by Lionsgate as a character-driven action thriller based on the game by Dille, who previously hatched “Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay” and “Dead to Rights.” Union Entertainment most recently developed vidgame “The Darkness” and previously set up its games “Zero-G” and “Blacklight” for feature adaptations at Fox.
Deal marks a reunion for Padilha and Mantovani, who co-wrote the crime drama “Elite Squad,” which Padilha directed.
While Mantovani is off writing the script, Padilha is preparing to next direct “The Sigma Protocol,” an adaptation of the Robert Ludlum thriller at Universal, with a script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (“Iron Man”). A late 2009 production start is being eyed for “Protocol.”
Padilha is repped by Gersh, Mantovani by CAA.
